The initial appointment your therapist will learn more about your background, concerns, and goals. They may ask questions about your current struggles, significant life events, and any previous mental health experiences.
It's also a time for you to ask questions and express any apprehensions you may have about therapy. This session is about building rapport and understanding your unique situation. Your therapist may offer some insights or coping strategies, but primarily, it will be dedicated to understanding your needs and establishing a plan that aligns with your expectations. Remember, this is your time — feeling comfortable and open is key to setting the stage for future sessions.

The duration of therapy can vary significantly from person to person, depending on individual goals, preferences, and the nature of the issues being addressed. Some individuals may find meaningful change within a few sessions, while others may engage in therapy for several months or even years, particularly if they are navigating deeply rooted concerns or trauma.
During your initial sessions, your therapist will work with you to determine a treatment plan that feels right for you. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy aimed at specific issues, while others may appreciate open-ended treatment that allows for ongoing exploration and tools for personal growth. Ultimately, it's about finding the right pace for you. Your therapist’s role is to guide and support you through each stage of your journey, adjusting focus as your needs evolve over time. Always feel free to discuss your goals for therapy and any concerns about the length of time in treatment; collaboration with your therapist is key to a rewarding experience.
